1.tao rana  do kakarangan na ya am,

         處格    高處       

misivovoong ori am  si mina Vaoyo,

   生孩子     那個  主格 已故  人名

o   nimanoma na kabnekan na am si Vaoyo.

主格   最先        長嗣     主格 人名

[:從天上下凡的人生了孩子,名叫si Vaoyo,這是她的第一個孩子]

The person from the heavens gave birth to a son called si Vaoyo. This was her first son.

 

2.inapo namen do sa  ka ili ori si Vaoyo ang,

    祖先   我們 處格       那個 主格 人名    

si  mina Vaoyo ori am,

主格 已故   人名 那個    

ikaznga da, ta to mingongyod a tao a,

令人發笑           變成        

o  aiai na am ipos  no among.

Si Vaoyo is the original ancestor of our village, but everyone laughed at him because even though he was a human, his feet looked like a fish’s tail.

[:所以他的父母親都為他很煩惱,”,我們的孩子怎麼會長成這樣呢?””,誰叫我們的祖先是天上的人,是他們給的,有什麼辦法?”]

Therefore, his parents agonized over him everyday. “Sigh, why does our child look like this?” “Sigh, it is our fault that our ancestors are from the heavens. They gave it to him, so what can we do?”

 

4.no mangay do ranom si mina Vaoyo ito am,

          處格     主格 已故  人名  那個

o    ai na am, to na paladangi sia,

paladangen  na do sa ka lima na ori.

[:每當si Vaoyo去水裡挑水,他就把水具掛著(在尾巴),他的把手彎成這樣,有的水具掛在他的另一隻手上]

Every time si Vaoyo went to get water, he would hang the buckets (on his tail). He would bend his arm like this, and hang another bucket on his other arm.

 

5.kakoakoan na ori a ipos no among no akma na I ai ori am,

     儘管      那個 尾巴 屬格    屬格         那個 

maksez ori a omalam, “alang, si mina Vaoyo!”

 動作快 那個   走路           主格 已故  人名

[:雖然他的腳長成尾巴樣,但他行進(走路)時可快的呢, “啊唷,你看看,Si aoyo的樣子”]

Even though his feet looked like a tail, he could still walk very quickly. “Oh, look at si Vaoyo.”

 

6. mi da sinmoen rana ori, ta ikasi da,

   他們   迎接       那個     同情  他們

o   mangasi  a tao nokakoa am, “apey jia” koan da

主格 會同情         以前             他      他們

a mi da sinmoen rana ori am, ori  o  pipipangayan no nia.

    迎接       那個    那樣 主格    意思      屬格

[:有些人同情他就會幫忙,說“快幫他提水”,他們就去幫他提,這個(木偶)就是那個(si Vaoyo)的意思]

Some people would pity him and help him, and say, “Hurry up and help him carry water.” They would go help him carry the water. This (puppet) means that (si Vaoyo).

 

7.o anood na rana ni Vaoyo ori am,

  主格         屬格   那個

ji ko pangaya, jia to mizangkap o anood ori,

     ()          普遍    主格     那個

ta no mian so pacinacinaoan a vazay am,

       斜格    遇到的        事情  

paapen o raraod ni mina Vaoyo ya.

[:有關si Vaoyo的歌呢,我就不唱了,因為這首歌不是平常可以隨意拿出來唱的,有機會或遇有特別的日子時我再來唱給你們聽]

As for the song of si Vaoyo, I will not sing it because it is not a song that can be taken out whenever to sing randomly. If there is an opportunity in the future or a special day, I will sing it to you.

Si Vaoyo’s father and his mother from heaven said, “Let us go to Jivalino to find a wife for our child.”

 

9.maniring o  ina na am, “to ta i manatavayan ta,

          主格 母親     我們   ..說媒,提親

to da nket si alikey a akma sito?”

他們 不嫌 主格 小的        那個

[:他的母親說“我們的孩子長成那樣,怎麼幫他說媒?”]

“Our child looks like this. How do we find a wife for him?” his mother asked.

 

10.”am kapakapayokan ta saon do pongso am,

          門當戶對    我們     處格 島上  

to ta i panavatavahayan do pakapakananaken? 

我們      說媒,提親處    處格    家境普通的

am ori, kapakapayokan ta saon do pongso am,

  那樣      門當戶對    我們   處格  島上  

mi ta panapitan am. ”

[:“在這島上,我們當然找個門當戶對的人家啊,你希望孩子娶個普通人家的孩子嗎?要娶媳婦本來就應該找個門當戶對的人“]

“Of course we need to find good wife for our son on this island. Do you want our son to marry someone from a normal family? Of course we need to find a good family to get a daughter-in-law.”

 

11.”a koanata, inio saon am” koan na am,

       當然了   你們              

mi da ipanavatavahay Jivalino am,

他們  ..說媒,提親    野銀村

  答應  他們 屬格 野銀村     不好意思 他們 他們

[:“你說的也沒錯啦,那就由你了”,後來他們就到了野銀村說媒;而野銀村的人家因為看他們是富有的人家,不好意思而答應了這門親事]

“You are right. It is up to you.” So they went to Jivalino to play matchmaker, and the people in Jivalino, seeing that they were a rich family, did not feel right to turn them down.

 

12.”yaten ta rana ya am, ciaa, ta ya nio na nimamizing

     我們   我們        沒關係  你們     聽說過

主格 男孩 我們  尾巴 屬格    主格  身體

“We believe that you have already heard that our child is half man and half fish.”

 

13.”ciaa manga ovay, ta ciaa, ta makongo ang?”

[:“但是,親愛的,你們別擔心,應該是沒關係”]

“However, dear, do not worry, for it will be ok.”

15. maniring o  ama na ka no ina na am,

            主格 父親 屬格 母親

“namen nipanatavahay imo mo ovay do Jivalino am,

si mai do jia am, ciata, ya mai do jia,

    處格      沒關係     處格

ka da kehakay sipenzak” koan da.

[:他的父母親說,“我們去野銀村幫你說媒去了,明天早上,他們會來我們這裡”]

“We went to Jivalino to help you find a wife. Tomorrow morning, they will come to us,” his parents said.

 

16.mai rana sira do ikadoa na araw, penzak am,

       已經  他們 處格  第二           早上  

toda apaw si mina Vaoyo ang, “ji ka miyoyowyaw mo keypong,

[:第二天早上,他們來時,si Vaoyo突然消失了。之前他的父母親還特別跟他提醒過,説“你不要亂跑哦,不然朋友(親家)們來時,你不在場就失禮了]

The second morning, when they arrived, si Vaoyo suddenly disappeared. His parents had specially reminded him before, saying, “Don’t run off, because it would be very impolite if you are not here when our friends (future in-laws) come.”

 

17.ji na ngamizinga ori  ni mina Vaoyo ang,

         聽從      那個 屬格 已故  人名  

toda angay do kakamaligan, o kakamaligan

         處格  船屋         主格   船屋

a vahay no tatala am, to na  papesa o kataotao na

     屬格              使消失 主格  身體   

ni mina Vaoyo ori a,

[:可是si Vaoyo並沒有聽從,偷偷跑去船屋裡大變身去了]

However, si Vaoyo did not listen. He secretly went to the boat house to change.

 

18.to na papesa  o kataotao na am,

       使消失 主格   身體    

miraong rana so tavaos a, kapibinbintekan na am,

 頭上戴著 已經 斜格  禮帽       並穿上織衣        

[:他變身後,戴上了禮帽,並穿上了織衣]

After he changed, he put on a ceremonial hat and stitched clothing.

 

19.o binbintekan da pa nokakoa am oring pa,

   主格   織衣      他們   以前       黑炭  

ta abo pa  o ipivahed da   a maoran no teysa ka mahataw,

  沒有 主格  織紋用  他們    ?      屬格 某一     島嶼

a  ta  na ipivahed siciaikoa ya, oring o toda mivehdan,

我們   織紋用      現在          黑炭 主格     織紋用

[:以前,他們衣服上的黑色織紋的部份是用鍋灰染成的,因為當時我們這個島上還沒有我們現在所使用的黑棉線,所以當時還是以鍋灰作成黑色的顏料]

In the past, ash from the bottom of a pot was the dye used for the black creases in the cloth because we did not have black yarn in the past as we do now. Therefore, we still used ash from the pot as our black dye.

 

20.makapia rana nimanglinglit, to namorang,

     非常的   已經    換上新衣            上去

to ngoli rana, maniring o  aro  a tao,

  回部落 已經           主格 很多

“sino ito?” koan da, pikabekbebnekan da,

     那個       他們  都猜是某人或某人  他們

“sino ori ang?” koan da am,

     那個          他們

[:他打扮成盛裝回村莊去,一路上被人指指點點,說“那是誰啊?”有的猜成某人,或猜成另一個某人,“他到底是誰?”他們都議論紛紛的猜著]

He went back to the village in rich attire. Along the way, people pointed and said, “Who is that?” Some people guessed that he was someone, others someone else. “Who the heck is he?” They debated amongst themselves.

 

21.”sino ka mo ovay? Anak kong!” koan da,

            寶貝   孩子           他們

“yaken am si mina Vaoyo ko”, to da  nazizikan,

      主格 過去   人名      他們 斜眼表懷疑的眼神

“ta asio?” koan da.

怎麼        他們

[:“親愛的寶貝,你好,你是誰?”他們問,“我是si Vaoyo”,他們都以懷疑的眼神看他,說怎麼可能?“]

“Hello dear, who are you?” They asked. “I am si Vaoyo.” They looked at him questioning, and said, “How is that possible?”

 

22.”si ji nio paneheda yaken manga kaminan am,

       你們   相信          親愛的   阿姨   

mi nio citaen o   ko niosan do kamaligan an” koan na,

你們  看一看 主格    使消失 處格   船屋           

[:他説,“阿姨們,你們若不信,可以去船屋看一看,我變身的“]

“Aunties, if you don’t believe me, you can go take a look in the boat house where I changed,” he said.

 

23.ji da panoyonga, “mangay ta pala citaen o  na niosan”,

       相信               我們 試試       主格 使消失

to da i nita am manoyong.

他們          真的

[:他們還是不信,“我們去看看他變身的地方”,他去看了以後,才相信是真的]

They still did not believe him. “Let us go check out the place that he changed.” After they saw it, they believed it was real.

 

24.moli sira ori   o nimanoma nimakacita sira ori am, 

    回部落 他們 那些 主格  先前       看過       他們  那個

“iraralay takamo si mina Vaoyo,

   要尊敬    我們   主格 過去  人名

ta ori na niosan do kamaligan, a mi nio citaen! 

  那個   使消失 處格  船屋       你們  看一看

O    ito rana si aci  ta” koan da am,

主格 那裡 已經 主格 男孩 我們   他們

makapia mibinbintekan a.   

 非常地      穿上織衣    

[:看過了他變身的地方後,說“我們要尊敬(相信?)si Vaoyo,因為他真的是在船屋裡變身的,不信你們可以去看看,他就是我們的孩子“,他們真的無法置信,眼前盛裝的這個人就是(之前為半人半魚的)si Vaoyo]

After seeing the place that he changed, they said, “We should respect (believe) si Vaoyo because he really changed in the boat house. If you don’t believe it, you can go look. He is our child.” They really could not believe that the person all dressed up in front of them was really (the former merman) si Vaoyo.

 

25.somamorang do vahay da am, “sino ka mo kowyowyod”

        上來           他們              朋友

koan no ama na a ka no iciaroa da,

   屬格 父親 屬格  親家  他們

[:他剛到家時,他的父親和未來的岳父還問他說,“親愛的朋友,你是哪一位?”]

When he got home, his father and future father-in-law asked, “Dear friend, who are you?”

 

26.”yaken mo ama am, si mina Vaoyo ko”,

            父親   主格 過去  人名 

“to manazovaz manga anak ko, ta ya ka nimakongo

     敷衍      親愛的  孩子          怎麼了

so vazay?” koan da am, 

斜格 事情        他們

[:”爸爸,是我啊,si Vaoyo”, “孩子,你別鬧了,你發生了什麼事他們問]

“Dad, it is me, si Vaoyo.” “Child, don’t play. What happened?” they asked.

 

27.“mi da citaen ni ina  a  ka ni kaminan

     他們      屬格 母親 屬格 阿姨

o   ko niosan  do kamaligan”

主格   使消失 處格   船屋

[:”不信就叫媽媽和阿姨去船屋看看我變身的地方”]

“If you don’t believe it, ask Mom and Auntie to go check out the place that I changed in the boat house.”

 

28.to ngai sira  o nimakacita sia a,

          他們 主格   看過的     

“ji nio ikoana si aci  ta, ta ori na niosan am,

  你們 使那個 主格 男孩 我們 那個  使消失  

ya maloit o  ya nimangay tomita sia” koan da am,

     ?   主格   去過                    他們

[:看過si Vaoyo變身的村人來到他們家,,”你們不要那個(懷疑)孩子了,因為我們真的看過他變身的船屋了”]

The villagers that saw si Vaoyo changed came to their house and said, “Do not (doubt) this child anymore. We have already seen the boat house where he changed.”

 

29.to na rana amoan, to na namoan,

    已經 不好意思   不好意思

ta  akmi nimatazak a tao o vazavazay

       下凡,新生    主格  事情

ni mina Vaoyo a inapo ta ori am,

屬格 過去  人名    祖先 我們 那個

[:後來,村人反而對他變得不好意思(尊敬),因為他看起來就像是剛出生(天上下凡?)的人一樣。這就是我們祖先si Vaoyo的故事。]

Later on, the villagers felt bad for themselves (respected him) because he looked like a person who was just born (from heaven). This is the story of our ancestor si Vaoyo.

 

30.am ya abo rana jiaten ori, koanata,

  沒有 已經   我們   那個    當然了

taosia o nimapodpod do kakarangan na am,

 不要  主格   落自     處格   高處,上方   

nipanglingling na rana ori am,

        ?              那個 

ori  o  niyan no anood na. 

那樣 主格 才有 屬格     

[:但是我們已經沒有那些(指盛裝時所穿戴的的珠錬等飾物?),因為他們是天上的人,(所以會有那些東西),後來有歌敘述著如上的情節]

However, we no longer have these (special bead necklaces and accessories worn with the rich attire?) because they were heavenly people (and therefore had these things). There were later songs that talked about what I mentioned.

 

31.am  o  anood na a  ka no raraod na am,

However, these anood and raod songs are for important dates. On the right day, whether it is something for your generation or our generation, I will teach you how to sing the song).

[:到時候,你們可以錄下來。就算我們現代沒有傲人的東西(指傳家寶),但沒有關係,因為我們的祖先si Vaoyo財寶不可能還是完整到我們這一代都不變。]

You can record it then. Even if we have nothing to show off (family heirlooms), it is ok because there is no way that our ancestor si Vaoyo’s treasures could remain unchanged through our generation.
