About the mangozokozozo (swimming fishing) fishing technique

1.yapoan  na  no nia am, ipisa ko pa nimacikavang

ji Ngaliotot no kian ko Jiranmilek

a nimaneyreng    do tyeteyka ya,

As for this type of fishing, in the past, when I was living with my uncle si Ngaliotot in Jiranmilek, there was a summer that he took me out to sea to maneyreng(a type of fishing).

2.am ikateykalak ko, ta nipaloas namen pa

o tatala ori a, kapangay namen sia do pamsan na,

kapangpeh namen so   aro a veysen,

I was very curious, because after we pushed the boat to the edge of the sea, we collected many rocks.

3.“mo kongon ya, a maoran ta  ya” koan ko am,

“a kongon mo? To ka angay dang a, ji ka mipila?”

 pila o veysen ang.

“What are you collecting these rocks for? Can our boat really carry them?” I asked. “What do you think I’m going to do with them? You think you are just going to go out there? You are not going to bring rocks to make it ride lower?” The use of the stones is just like that of ballast.

4.tatateng am, kowden namen a, kowden namen am,

ikongo do ji ko pa ateneng a, kongoen na paro ito a,

… …., am ipanci ori a vahasen koan na.

Afterwards, as we were rowing, because I did not know how to row (how to tie the boat lowering rocks)…the action is called vahasen, but I did not know how he did (tied) it.

5.vahasen o pangayin a pila ori am,

ji mancian o “pakedked o pila mo”, ji mancian ori a,

ori ori   o  ipanci a pila ori a.

You needed to tie up the boat lowering rocks, but when you say, To tie well to aid boat lowering, you need to use the term vahasen and not pakedped. He said, Let us each tie our own boat lowering rocks, where the rocks replace the lead.

6.miratateng am, a no itbong rana ori am,

makong paro ori a toda ‘opso? am ta ko katenngan?

Next, after we had put the rocks into the water, when we pulled the line back, the rock fell to the bottom of the sea. At the time I did not know how it got loose, because that was the first time that I had fished in this way.

7.a misazap namen? ji namen sazapa o   ito a,

miratateng am, no palikoden na rana o …,

Also, we were not facing each other. We sat facing the same direction looking toward there (forward). Every time he passed me a boat lowering rock, he said, Hey, take this. When I got it, I would look closely at how it was tied, but no matter how hard I examined it, I did not understand how it was done.

8.miratateng am, a no mavahas rana o  pila ori am,

After the boat lowering rocks have been released, you need to pull in the lines. At the same time, the fish hooks have caught fish, so when you pull up the fish, the rocks that were formerly tied to the fishing lines are gone, lying at the bottom of the ocean. Therefore this is why pregnant women cannot eat fish that was caught in this way.

9.ji da yakanan no  mownged    o sineyrengan,

so  sineyrengan a, a no teyteyka rana ya.

The reason that pregnant women cannot eat this type of fish is because, think about it, once the stone goes into the water it does not come out again. So you understand what it means now, right? However, women who no longer give birth (have stopped giving birth) can eat them.

Later, I slowly grew up. That time when I participated in the maneyreng boat fishing was my first experience. However, when I returned there (Iraralay) we often used the mangozokozozo fishing method to catch fish. In the past, there were quite a few fish, sometimes you could catch three nets of fish and pour it onto the boat. That is it.

As for the maneyreng fishing method, if you are fishing in shallow sea, you will catch fish such as the karam fish, meylak so ipos fish, daodo fish, etc. If you go to the deeper sea, the possible fish that you will catch include the kolitan fish, vosisi fish, vazavaza fish, etc. Especially the yavoy fish, if you find their gathering grounds, you will catch large numbers of yavoy fish.
