When they traded mivoteng with si mina Monay, they bought the water source as wide as “three fingers”, so we had a share of water with a width between the thumb and any of the other three fingers (not the index finger) plus three more fingers. But now we no longer have any share of the water source, because they plugged our water source.

[1] Anaman

An is the short form for aman fathers generation.

An is the short form for aman, which is again the short form for ai ama ni someones father’”.

Rangan is a unit of length (or width). Sangaen refers to the width between the thumb and the index finger. Rangan refers to the width between the thumb and any of the other three fingers (not the index finger).

比如asa a rangan a

ka no adoa a kamay,

Kamay (lit. fingers) refers to the width or length of a small object, for example, asa a rangan a ka no adoa a kamay means the width between the thumb and any of the other three fingers (not the index finger) plus two more fingers.

When the Yami make a ditch to distribute water, they build in several u-shaped wooden containers. If there are four families sharing a certain water source, there will be four u-shaped containers on a piece of wood plank. The size of the u-shaped container varies depending on the amount of water distribution. The wooden plank that allots water flow is called icing.
