The chicken has to be washed and cooked before it is eaten. The woman who recently gave birth has to be able to take a cold bath before she is allowed to eat chicken.

If she is not ready to take a cold bath, she is not allowed to eat chicken.

[1] Mownged是指產後至小孩周歲(也有的人說到孩子會走路止)的婦女。

Mownged refers to a woman who recently gave birth to a baby or until the baby reaches a year old or begins to walk.

[2] 指受贈的禮肉不可以直接拿來吃,得先過水再煮來吃之意。

It means gift meat cannot be eaten raw. It has to be boiled in water before it is cooked.

[3] makazozonat疼痛,發炎。問道產道之事,受訪之婦女不太願意說清楚那是什麼樣的情形,

只說吃雞肉會使傷口(產道,陰道)疼痛,但聽起來好像有發炎的意思。

Makazozonat means sore, infected. The interviewee was reluctant to speak clearly about a woman’s vagina. She only said the vagina would be sore. It probably means the wound would get inflected.

[4] kiyan do vahay 直譯為待在家裡,或在屋裡”,指生產,生孩子之意。

Kiyan do vahay literally means staying at home. It refers to giving birth.

[5] valivaliwan, vali-valiw-an, <valiw。生過五個孩子以內的產婦為valiwan, 生過六個孩子以上的產婦為meywam.

Valivaliwan (vali-valiw-an, <valiw). Women who have given birth to five or less children are called valiwan. Women who have given birth to six or more children are called meywam.

Icialaw is placed after a term of address, meaning “late so and so”. For example, si ama icialaw” is “one’s late father”, and si akes mo a icialaw” is “your late grandmother”. In addition, icialaw also means “not want”.

Mina placed before one’s name refers to “late so and so”. For example, “si mina Paloy” is “Late Mr. Paloy”. Mina also means “past, previous”, e.g.,mina ayob ko” is “my previous clothes or clothes I used to wear”.

Mangahanas refers to the period of child rearing. It begins from child birth and ends at the time when the child goes to preschool or when s/he is able to move around without being held by his/her mother. Please also refer to footnote 1 on the term of mownged.

Migoagoay is peeling sweet potato, taro, or yam. Some say this includes fetching water.

Mapicipcipa is doing things without any constraints, e.g., making a mess, eating randomly or being gluttonous.
